Box Score The recipe for a long night was in place for the Webster University men's basketball team. Facing an NCAA Division II program, on the road, and short handed player-wise to boot, the Gorloks fell to Lindenwood University, 96-65, in St. Charles, MO, on January 2.
Webster faced an uphill climb against the 7-3 Lions, members of the Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference, and without starting center Aaron Griffin (SO, Velma Jackson HS, MS) and guard Dietrick Sooter (SR, Pierce City HS, MO) available, the task was that much more difficult. The Gorloks were down 19-14 with 12:00 left in the first half, but the Lions went on a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to expand the lead to 14.
Lindenwood shot a torrid 68% pace for the first half (21-31), including 5-10 from the three point-line to take a 53-31 halftime lead. The Gorloks shot a serviceable 46% for the half, but it was not enough to keep up with the Lions.as Webster went 0-4 from beyond the arc. Lindenwood hit three of its first four three-point attempts in the second half as Webster was unable to mount a serious threat. The Gorloks lost the battle of the boards, 42-20, to the taller Lions.
Ahmad Smith (SO, Clayton HS, MO) led Webster with 19 points for the game. Roman Robinson (SR, Angelo Rodriguez HS, CA) had 16 points, on 7-11 shooting from the field, and three steals. Jarrod Huskey (JR, Hillsboro HS, MO) had a team-high six rebounds, and chipped in with seven points.
Webster falls to 4-6 overall on the season. The Gorloks (2-0) jump back into St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on January 5 as they travel to Eureka College (IL). The team is back home on Janaury 8 to face MacMurray College (IL)
