Box Score Webster University's volleyball team went the distance in a bid to upset the No. 21 ranked team in the nation, Trinity University (Texas), before falling in five games, 24-26, 25-18, 24-26, 25-22, 15-4.

This was the first time the two teams had met since the 2008 NCAA Division III national tournament, a match won by Trinity in three games.

Webster continued its sterling defensive play today. The Gorloks tallied 89 digs, third highest in a match this season. They had a season-high 99 digs in today's earlier match versus Redlands and 97 digs against Augustana Oct. 11.

Freshman Katie O'Toole (St. Louis, MO / Lutheran South) racked up a team-high 26 digs. This is her sixth match this season with 20 or more digs, and 11th match with 10 or more digs.

.Junior Megan Morrison (St. Louis, MO / Lutheran South) contributed 16 digs and junior Jordan Vehlewald (Wildwood, MO / Lafayette) added 15 digs.

Junior Sam Kersting (St. Louis, MO / Lindbergh), who was named to the all-tournament team, had a team-high 15 kills with a .297 hitting percentage. This is the sixth time this season she has amassed 15 or more kills in a match. She recorded seven assisted blocks to tie her season high. This is the 11th time in 14 matches that Kersting has earned at least five total blocks.

Junior Alexa Joseph (Austin, TX / Anderson), back in her home state, and junior Kristen McDowell (Staunton, IL / Staunton) both had 11 kills, the third match this season that each had double-figure kills. McDowell also had a season-high five assisted blocks.

Junior Allie O'Toole (St. Louis, MO / Lutheran South) was credited with 28 assists, her second highest total this season. This is her eighth match of the season with at least 20 assists.

Webster totaled 55 kills, its eighth match this season with at least 50 kills. This is the second time this season the Gorloks have accumulated 50+ kills in consecutive matches. They had 56 in previous match versus Redlands.

The Gorloks (20-7 overall) begin a streak of five consecutive conference matches leading up to the conference tournament. The first match is Thursday (Oct. 24) in its regular-season home finale, against Blackburn at 7 pm at Grant Gym.
