Sagehens Scratch by Gorloks, 66-60

Box Score Ending its California trip at 1-1, the Webster University women's basketball team fell to Pomona College, 66-60, on December 30 in Claremont.  The Gorloks battled throughout the contest with the Sagehens, but were never able to build a lead in a contest where the greatest advantage was eight points.

Brittany Harris-Conway (SO, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) led Webster in scoring, netting 16 points on 7-11 shooting from the field.  She averaged 17 points per game on the trip after also scoring 18 in the 84-64 win vs. Cal Tech.  Courtney Pursley (SR, Lonedell, MO/St. Clair HS) just missed hitting her fourth straight double double, grabbing a team-leading 10 rebounds, but coming up short at eight points.

Cassie Endicott (JR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) had 11 points and seven rebounds in the game and Kaliann Rikard (SR, Cuba, MO/Cuba HS) led the Gorloks with seven assists.

Webster was down 30-28 at halftime after being down as many as eight.  The Gorloks tied the game at 34-34 on an Endicott layup with 17:00 left in the second half, but Pomona extended the lead to eight again.  After closing within one at 46-45 at the 9:00 mark, Webster would get no closer as Pomona ran off a 6-0 run to make in 52-45.

The Gorloks were hindered by starting out at 1-15 from the three-point line.  The team closed stronger from behind the arc, hitting four of its last seven threes to keep within striking distance.

The Gorloks are 5-4 on the season.  Webster takes the trip down Big Bend Boulevard on January 4 to take on Washington University in its first contest in 2014.  They resume play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a game at Principia College in Elsah, IL, on January 7.
