Gorloks Declaw Panthers, 77-63

Box Score Starting off the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a hard-nosed win, the Webster University men's basketball team came from behind to down Greenville College (Ill), 77-63, on December 4 at Grant Gymnasium.   Leading the way for the Gorloks with his second straight double double, Kevin Miller (SO, Belleville, Ill/Belleville East HS) netted 19 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Started by a Miller layup at 17:46 in the second half, the Gorloks went on a 13-0 run, erasing a seven-point deficit and giving Webster a 40-34 lead.  Miller pulled down five of his game-high 11 rebounds during the run.  The Panthers came back to tie the game at 46-46, with 7:45 left in the game but another Gorlok run, this one 15-4, put Webster solidly in the lead at 61-50 with 3:15 remaining.

Miller wound up 8-11 from the field, hitting his only three-point attempt.  Webster guards Hollis Edwards (SR, Nashville, Tn/McGavock HS) and Ahmad Smith (JR, St. Louis, Mo/Clayton HS) had 15 and 12 10 points, respectively, in the game.  Smith was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line and led Webster with four assists.

Jarrod Huskey (SR, Hillsboro, Mo/Hillsboro HS) had seven points and eight rebounds, going 3-4 from the field.

The Gorloks, with only 11 turnovers on the night, are really taking care of the ball of late.  Webster has only committed 30 over its last three games for a stingy average of 10 per contest.

A 12-2 stretch midway through the first half propelled the Gorloks to a 19-9 lead.  But the Gorloks were outscored 17-8 for the duration of the half, and entered the locker room down, 26-25.

The Gorloks improve to 3-2 on the season, and continue play in the SLIAC with another edition of the Battle of Big Bend as the Fontbonne University Griffins visit Grant Gymnasium, on December 7 at 3:00 p.m.
