Box Score Opening play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Webster University women's basketball team got off to a high-flying start with a 63-55 win over Greenville College (Ill), on December 4 at Grant Gymnasium. Junior center Cassie Endicott (Bethalto, Ill./Civic Memorial HS) led the Gorloks with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
In addition to Endicott's double-double, senior forward Courtney Pursley (Lonedell, Mo/St. Clair HS) just missed having one of her own with 13 points and nine rebounds. Transfer guard Ashley Brooks (Hermann, Mo/Hermann HS) had a team-high six assists and chipped in the scoring with 10 points.
Webster took an early lead in the game and held on to it to the finish. Webster had an eight-point halftime lead, 28-20, with freshman guard Elisha Cobbs (Bellevue, Neb./Bellevue West HS) leading the way in the half with three-three-pointers, giving her a team-high nine points for the period.
In the second half, Webster extended its lead, pulling to a 44-29 lead with 11:42 remaining in the contest. The Panthers challenged late in the second half when a 10-2 run got them within four at 55-51 at 3:56, but the Gorloks prevailed. Endicott helped led the second half charge, scoring 11 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
The Gorloks are 3-2 overall and continue play in the SLIAC with another edition of the Battle of Big Bend as the Fontbonne University Griffins visit Grant Gymnasium, on December 7 at 1:00 p.m.
