Webster Falls to Missouri S&T, 95-79

Box Score Taking on an NCAA II opponent on the road, the Webster University men's basketball team fell to the University of Missouri S & T, 95-79, on December 8, in Rolla, MO.  Ahmad Smith (JR, St. Louis, MO/Clayton HS) led the Gorloks with 17 points.

Webster led 22-20, with 10:50 left in the first half, but fell behind, 52-36, at intermission.  A pair of Hank Hawkins (JR, St. Louis, MO/Vianney HS) three-pointers helped fuel a Webster 8-0 run to start the second half, bringing the Gorloks within eight at 52-44.  The Miners picked away though, building the lead to 71-52 at the 10:00 mark, and cruised to victory.

Webster shot a season high 58% from the field, going 28-48, and was hot from the three-point line at 9-14 (64%).  But Missouri S&T won the battle of the boards handily, outrebounding Webster 37-20, helping give the Miners a 19-0 edge in second chance points in the contest.

Hollis Edwards (SR, Nashville, TN/McGavock HS) tied his season-high with15 points and dished out four assists.  Edwards was 3-3 from the three-point line for the game.  Kevin Miller (SO, Belleville, IL/Belleville East HS) had 14 points and a team-high five rebounds.  Freshman Jonathan Odjo (West Palm Beach, FL/Suncoast HS) came off the bench and picked up nine points.

The Gorloks resume play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a trip to Eureka College on December 14.  Webster plays next at home on December 20 as it hosts Monmouth College (IL).  The Gorloks then take a two-week holiday break before resuming play, on January 4, at Washington University.
