The Webster University men's basketball team held onto a share of fourth place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an 84-55 win at Blackburn College (IL), on February 16. A Gorlok win at home on February 18 vs. Principia College (IL), will clinch the fourth and final berth in the SLIAC Tournament.
The Gorloks, who are currently tied with MacMurray College (IL) at 10-5 in the SLIAC, hold the head to head tie-breaker with the Highlanders if both teams would wind up at 11-5.
The Gorloks started out slow, leading 16-15 with 11:00 left in the first half, but built up a 41-27 halftime lead. In the second half, the Highlanders crept to within seven at 47-40, with 13:00 remaining in the game. Webster went on a 15-3 run to grab a 62-43 lead and it was off to the races for the Gorloks as they continued to pad the lead the rest of the way.
Four Gorloks wound up in double figures in points for the game. Ahmad Smith (SO, Clayton HS, MO) had 15 points to lead Webster. Roman Robinson (SR, Angelo Rodriguez HS, CA) had 13 points and six rebounds while Cody Bradfisch (SR, Jerseyville HS, IL) and Danny Zehner (SO, Oakville HS, MO) each had 11 points on the afternoon. Jarrod Huskey (JR, Hillsboro HS, MO) led Webster with 10 rebounds and chipped in with eight points.
With the win, Webster is 13-11 overall on the season. The Gorloks final regular seas0n contest will be at home on February 18 vs. Principia. This is a make up for the postponement of a game originally scheduled for February 5. If Webster advances to the SLIAC Tournament, the first round will take place on February 22 at host Spalding University, in Louisville, KY.
