Men’s Basketball Fends Off Principia, 73-66

Box Score Winning its third straight in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Webster University men's basketball team handed Principia College a 73-66 loss, on January 16, at Grant Gymnasium.  Kevin Miller (SO, Belleville, IL/Belleville East HS) recorded his third double double on the season, scoring team-highs with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

A see-saw affair in the early going, Webster trailed, 16-13, with 10:15 left in the first half.  A Hunter Ward (FR, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood HS) dunk and subsequent layup by Jarrod Huskey (SR, Hillsboro, MO/Hillsboro HS) put Webster up 23-18 at the 5:03 mark.  The Gorloks entered the locker room up, 29-22, shooting 53% (12-23) from the field.

In the second half, the Gorloks lead ballooned to 47-33, with a 10-0 run that included a Miller dunk, and never looked back.  After a woeful 27% (4-15) performance from the free-throw line in the first half, Webster shot 93% (14-15) to help secure the victory.
Ahmad Smith (JR, St. Louis, MO/Clayton HS) had 16 points on the night for Webster, and Hollis Edwards (SR, Nashville,

TN/McGavock HS) had 15 points and three steals.  Jonathan Odjo (FR, West Palm Beach,  FL/Suncoast HS) had a team-leading seven assists and four steals.

The Gorloks make their first visit to Mt. Pleasant, IA, to take on new SLIAC member Iowa Wesleyan on January 18.  Webster is back home on January 23 to face SLIAC leader Spalding University at Grant.
