Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team lost to Spalding University, 69-54, on January 23, at Grant Gymnasium. The Gorloks had a halftime lead and traded leads with Spalding in the second half before succumbing to the Golden Eagles.
Webster was led by center Cassie Endicott (JR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) with 12 points. She had three blocks and five rebounds also on the night. Courtney Pursley (SR, Lonedell, MO/St. Clair HS) had 11 points and nine rebounds in the contest Guard Ashley Brooks (SO, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) came off the bench to score 10 points and grab four rebounds.
The Gorloks fell behind 8-0 at 17:20 in the first, but came back to take an 11-10 lead at the 13 minute mark. The teams traded baskets for the duration of the half before Brooks sank a three-pointer at the buzzer to send Webster into the locker room up 33-28. Brooks 2-2 was from beyond the arc as team went 3-4 overall. Mia Williams (SO, St. Louis, MO/Hazelwood West HS) went 4-4 from the field, leading Webster with nine points in the half, coming off the bench as well.
Webster's lead eroded in the first few minutes of the second half as the lead then changed hands numerous times before Spalding pulled ahead 47-43 with 9 minutes remaining. That would be the last time the Gorloks would see the positive side of the ledger as the Golden Eagles extended their lead to 63-49 with 4:00 left.
Webster falls to 5-3 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and 8-7 overall. Spalding improves to 8-1 in the SLIAC as they sneak ahead of Eureka College (IL) into second place in the conference.
The Gorloks hit the road on January 25 for another big SLIAC matchup as they take on MacMurray College at Jacksonville, IL.
