Gorloks in SLIAC Hunt With 73-45 Win at Blackburn

Box Score The Webster University men's basketball team remained in the hunt for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title as it downed Blackburn College, 73-45, on January 29 in Carlinville, IL.  After a tough loss at MacMurray on January 25, Webster won its sixth SLIAC contest in its last seven.  The Gorloks improved to 8-2 in the SLIAC with the win.

Guard Ahmad Smith (JR, St. Louis, MO/Clayton HS) led the Gorloks with 19 points.  Smith was 8-12 from the field.  Back court partner Hunter Ward (FR, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood HS) had 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals on the night.  Center Kevin Miller (SO, Belleville, IL/Belleville East HS) had a team-high seven rebounds and nine points.

Freshman guard Adam Etter (Breese, IL/Mater Dei HS) came off the bench and had a team-high five steals and chipped in with 10 points.

Webster ran to a 32-18 halftime lead as Smith poured in 13 points on 5-7 shooting from the field.  Smith was 3-4 from the three-point line as Webster went 9-14 from beyond the arc in the half.  The Gorloks had 11 offensive boards in the first half alone as they out rebounded the Highlanders 18-9.

Webster is 11-6 overall on the season.  The Gorloks are home on February 1 as they host new SLIAC member Iowa Wesleyan, then travel to Principia College on February 4.
