Wash U Men Pull Rank on Webster, 85-68

Box Score Facing a ranked Washington University squad, the Webster University men's basketball team fell, 85-68, on January 4.  Despite several Webster players seeing increased playing-time, the Gorloks lost at the Wash U Field House to the Bears, ninth in the most recent NCAA III poll.

Aaron Griffin (JR, Farm Haven, MS/Velma Jackson HS), playing his second game of the season after missing the first eight due to injury, started for the first time.  Hunter Ward (FR, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood HS) made his Webster debut, coming off the bench in the loss.

Griffin wound up the high scorer with 11 points.  Kevin Miller (SO, Belleville, IL/Belleville East) had nine points and Ward, Hollis Edwards (SR, Nashville, TN, McGavock HS), and freshman C.J. Moore (Homestead, FL/Miami Killian HS), all had eight for the Gorloks.  Edwards and Ward both led Webster with four rebounds.

Washington U took a 50-38 halftime lead.  A Griffin layup with 5:17 left in the first half brought Webster within two points of the lead, 33-31.  A 9-2 run to finish the half by Washington U opened up the 12-point lead.  The Bears sizzled from the three-point line for the half, hitting 8-10 to help pad their lead.  The Bears slowly built up the lead in the second half as the Gorloks succumbed.

The Gorloks are 5-5 overall on the season and 2-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  They resume play in the SLIAC with a game at Principia College in Elsah, IL, on January 7.  Webster returns home when it hosts Westminster College on January 9 at Grant Gymnasium.
