Rikard Leads Rout of Blue Jays, 77-55

Box Score Racing to a 40-22 lead, the Webster University women's basketball team cruised to a 77-55 victory over Westminster College, on January 9, at Grant Gymnasium.  Senior guard Kaliann Rikard (Cuba, MO/Cuba HS) had 16 points, and team-highs with six assists and five steals to lead the Gorloks.

Rikard was 6-8 from the field as Webster, as a team, shot a season high 54.7% (29-53), and was 7-13 from the behind the three-point arc in the game.  Junior center Cassie Endicott (Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) led Webster with 17 points and added six rebounds and four blocks on the night.  Endicott was also 6-8 from the field for the game.

Courtney Pursley (JR, Lonedell, MO/St. Clair HS) added 11 points and seven rebounds in the contest.  Rikard had twelve points, five assists, and two steals as Webster raced to a 34-15 lead in the first half.  The Gorloks shot at a 50% clip for the half, including 4-9 from the three-point line, and held a 23-15 advantage on the boards.

Webster's triumph was a rare Gorlok blow-out in the recent rivalry with the Blue Jays.  Westminster had won 13 of the previous 16 contests between the two schools.  The Gorloks move to 3-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and are tied for second place.

The Gorloks are 6-5 overall on the season.  They are back at home when they host the Blackburn Beavers on January 15 at Grant.  On January 18, Webster makes its first SLIAC visit to Mt. Pleasant, IA, to take on new member Iowa Wesleyan.
