Fighting Scots Hand Gorloks Loss in Opener

Box Score The Webster University men's basketball team opened the 2014-15 campaign with a 67-49 loss at Monmouth College (IL), on November 15.  The Gorloks fell behind, 36-27, at the half and, having to go with a smaller lineup, took too big of a beating on the boards to mount a comeback.

The Gorloks, without 6'8 center Kevin Miller (JR, Bellevillle, IL/Belleville East HS) and 6'7 forward Aaron  Griffin (JR, Farm Haven, MS/Velma Jackson HS), who are nursing injuries, had to counter with a guard heavy lineup.

The Fighting Scots beat the Gorloks, 39-24, on the boards, including 11 offensive rebounds.    Both teams played loose with the ball as they combined for 42 turnovers, with Webster having 20 to Monmouth's 22 on the evening.

Head coach Chris Bunch utilized his roster in the contest with 10 players receiving 10 or more minutes of playing time.

Ahmad Smith (SR, St. Louis, MO/Clayton HS) led Webster with 12 points and chipped in with five rebounds.   Hunter Ward (SO, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood HS) led Webster with seven rebounds and had two steals.

In his Webster debut, Joseph Henry (SO, Leavenworth, KS/Johnson County CC) had a team-high three steals.

The Gorloks play Knox College in Galesburg, IL on November 16.  They open at home on November 21 in the Cavallo Classic vs. Millikin University at Grant Gymnasium.
