Webster Wins Opener at Anderson Tourney, 59-46

Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team advanced to the championship of the Anderson University (IN) Tournament, beating the host Ravens, 59-46, on November 21.  The Gorloks will meet Grove City College (PA) for the championship on November 22.

Tied 23-23 at the half, both teams were still knotted, at 32-32, before Webster made its move.  Two freshmen coming off the bench helped spark Webster's run.  A steal by Brittany Zipprich (FR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) led to a pair of Brittany Harris-Conway (JR, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) free throws to put Webster up 36-32.

Zipprich then assisted on a layup by fellow freshman, Taylor Lucas (Sullivan, MO/Sullivan HS) to give Webster a 38-32 lead.  Zipprich had a layup of her own to extend the lead to 42-34.  The closest Anderson would get to Webster the rest of the way was seven, 42-25, with 7:26 remaining.

Conway-Harris had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Webster in both categories.  Zipprich finished with eight points on 4-4 shooting and Taylor Lucas had nine points, four rebounds, and two steals.

Ashley Brooks (JR, Hermann, MO/Hermann HS) had nine points, four rebounds, and a team-high three steals.  Senior Cassie Endicott (Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) tied Harris-Conway with eight rebounds, and added three blocked shots.

Webster as a team shot 15-30 (50%) in the second half and 43% for the game.  Webster held Anderson to 36% (18-50) shooting from the field and forced 24 Raven turnovers in the contest.

The Gorloks are 2-1 on the year with the win.  Grove City College (PA) defeated UC-Clermont, 83-63, in the other first round contest to advance to the championship game.  The Gorloks are home on November 25 to open play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference when they face MacMurray College (IL).
