Box Score The Webster University men's basketball team improved to 2-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on the young season with a 71-53 win at Westminster College. The Gorloks pretty much lead from start to finish as the team had a solid effort all around.
Webster shot 48% (25-52) from the field, including 41% (7-17) from the three-point line. The Gorloks also were 14-17 from the free throw line and held the Blue Jays to 36% shooting (20-56) for the game.
Ahmad Smith (SR, St. Louis, MO/Clayton HS) had a team-high 14 points and nine rebounds. Danny Zehner (JR, St. Louis, MO/Oakville HS) came off the bench to chip in 13 points on 5-6 shooting, and added five rebounds on the night.
C.J. Moore (SO, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian HS) had 11 points, on 5-8 shooting, and a team-high five assists and three steals.
Webster only trailed once in the contest, when the Blue Jays took a 10-8 lead with 11:12 left in the first half. Webster went into the locker room at the half leading, 30-25. The Gorloks led, 42-36, with 12 minutes remaining in the second half, and slowly increased their lead to double figures with 6:30 left to win going away.
The Gorloks hold a 29-24 edge in all-time regular season games between the two teams, including winning the last three meetings.
The Gorloks take to the road for another SLIAC game on December 6 at Principia College, in Elsah, IL. Webster returns home on December 10 to face Washington University, who is ranked fourth nationally in the NCAA III.
