The Webster University tennis team fell in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semi-finals to #1 seed Principia College, 5-0. The Gorloks had advanced to the semi-finals after beating Blackburn College, 5-0, earlier that day at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center at Forest Park, on April 25.
The Gorloks swept all three doubles against Blackburn to take a 3-0 lead. When Marissa Lewis (JR, Owasso, OK/Owasso HS) and Isabella Espinoza (JR, Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley HS) won at #1 and #3 singles, the match was declared over with Webster reaching the necessary five points for victory.
Against Principia, who were undefeated in SLIAC play, the Gorloks were overpowered. Webster fell 8-1 to the Panthers earlier this season, with Lewis taking the only Webster point in the match. The Gorloks fell behind 3-0 in doubles and after losing the #3 and #6 singles, the match was declared over at 5-0.
In the win vs. Blackburn, it was her 10th straight singles win, all coming at #1.
Webster will play Westminster College on April 26 for third place in the Tournament. The Gorloks are 5-10 overall on the season.
