Women's Tennis Falls In SLIAC Tournament Semis

The Webster University tennis team fell in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semi-finals to #1 seed Principia College, 5-0.  The Gorloks had advanced to the semi-finals after beating Blackburn College, 5-0, earlier that day at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center at Forest Park, on April 25.

The Gorloks swept all three doubles against Blackburn to take a 3-0 lead.  When Marissa Lewis (JR, Owasso, OK/Owasso HS) and Isabella Espinoza (JR, Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley HS) won at #1 and #3 singles, the match was declared over with Webster reaching the necessary five points for victory.

Against Principia, who were undefeated in SLIAC play, the Gorloks were overpowered.  Webster fell 8-1 to the Panthers earlier this season, with Lewis taking the only Webster point in the match.  The Gorloks fell behind 3-0 in doubles and after losing the #3 and #6 singles, the match was declared over at 5-0.

In the win vs. Blackburn, it was her 10th straight singles win, all coming at #1.

Webster will play Westminster College on April 26 for third place in the Tournament.  The Gorloks are 5-10 overall on the season.
