The Webster University women's tennis team fell twice this weekend, losing 5-1 to Missouri Baptist University on April 5, and 5-4 to Stephens College on April 5, at the Webster Groves Tennis Center.  The loss to Stephens was particularly tough for the Gorloks, who had to default the potentially match-winning #6 singles.

Webster fell behind to Missouri Baptist, an NAIA member that grants athletic scholarships, 2-1, in doubles play.  The Gorloks won the #1 doubles match, with Marissa Lewis (JR, Owasso, OK/Owasso HS) and Kaylen Kress (SO, Bartlett, IL/Bartlett HS) winning 9-8, taking the tie-breaker 10-3.  Kathleen Kennedy (JR, Tinsley Park, IL/Providence Catholic HS) and Isabella Espinoza (JR, Temecula, CA/Temecula Valley HS) lost an equally hard-played #2 doubles match, 9-7.  But the Gorloks, lacking a sixth to play #3 doubles, had to forfeit the point, falling behind, 2-1.

After Missouri Baptist had won three singles matches to give them the five points necessary for a victory, the match was called, 5-1.

Against Stephens, an NAIA member also, the Gorloks took a lead at doubles as Lewis and Kress at #1 and Erin Roop (SO, LaCrosse, WI/Aquinas HS) and Chelsea Foster (FR, St. Louis, MO/McCluer North) at #3 were winners.  Despite Lewis winning at #1 singles, and Roop at #5 to tie the match at 4-4, Webster had to default the #6 singles due to the loss of a player due to a previous commitment.  Lewis evened her record at #1 in match play to 4-4 on the season.  The full Webster results were:

The Gorloks fall to 1-6 overall, and are 0-1 in the SLIAC.  Webster travels to Blackburn College (IL) on April 6, and hosts Principia College (IL) on April 10 at the Webster Groves Tennis Center.
