The Webster University women's tennis team won its opening match of the 2014-15 year, defeating Fontbonne University, 9-0, in a non-conference match on September 12, at the Webster Groves Tennis Center.
Senior Marissa Lewis (Owasso, OK/Owasso HS) extended her singles winning streak, dating back to last season, to 14 straight. Lewis won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, at the #1 position. Lewis finished out 2013-14 on an 11-match streak, and went 2-0 last weekend at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Tournament.
Freshman Monica Behrle (Atlanta, GA/East Paulding HS), junior Kaylen Kress (Bartlett, IL/Bartlett HS), senior Isabella Espinoza (Temecula, CA/ Temecula Valley), and freshmen Jesse Steffens-Willis (St. Louis, MO/Rockwood Summit HS) and Stephanie Lass (Lake Villa, IL/Lakes Community HS) all won in straights set also at #s 2-6.
Lewis and Behrle won, 8-2, at #1 doubles, while Kress and Steffens-Willis won, 8-2, at #2, and Espinoza and Chelsea Foster (SO, St. Louis, MO/McCluer North HS) won, 8-0, at #3.
The Gorloks have two more matches this weekend, playing at Missouri Baptist University on September 13 (@ CBC High School) and at McKendree University on September 14 in Lebanon, IL.
