Box Score The Webster University men's basketball team won its third straight contest, defeating Westminster College, 75-48, on January 24 at Grant Gymnasium. After a slow start, the Gorloks overpowered the Blue Jays in the second half.
The Gorloks struggled early in the first half, falling behind the Blue Jays 7-2 to start the game and still trailing, 19-18, midway through the period. But Webster made its move, pulling to a 28-20 lead before ending the half ahead, 32-22.
In the second half, Webster started with a 14-4 run to extend its lead to 46-26 and coasted for the remainder of the contest. For the game, the Gorloks outshot the Blue Jays, 46% to 32%, and out rebounded them, 46-29.
Aaron Griffin (SR, Farm Haven, MS/Velma Jackson HS) had his fifth double double in his last seven games, with a team-high 19 points and 13 rebounds. Adam Etter (SO, Albers, IL/Mater Dei HS) had 15 points, on 4-4 shooting from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line.
C.J. Moore (SO, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian HS) had 10 points, and Hunter Ward (SO, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood HS) pulled down 11 rebounds while adding a team-high five assists.
Webster improves to 7-3 in the SLIAC and 11-6 overall with the win. The Gorloks have a week off before travelling to Jacksonville, IL, to face MacMurray College on January 31. The Gorloks are home next on February 3 vs. Principia College at Grant Gym.
