MacMurray Muscles Webster, 91-65

Hoping to grab a piece of second place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Webster University men's basketball team lost at MacMurray College, 91-65, in Jacksonville, IL, on January 31.

The margin of the loss was surprising in that the Gorloks had defeated the Highlanders, 82-60, earlier this season and had come into the contest just one game behind MacMurray.  Webster trailed 41-33 at the break and never challenged in the second half.

Webster was dominated on the boards in the contest, with MacMurray holding a 36-19 edge in rebounding.   The Highlanders also had the edge in shooting, dropping 53% (36-64) of their shots to the Gorloks' 47% (24-51).

Hunter Ward (SO, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood HS) led Webster with 16 points, on 5-10 shooting from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line.  Ward also led the Gorloks with seven rebounds on the day.

Aaron Griffin (SR, Farm Haven, MS/Velma Jackson HS) had 15 points and  four rebounds.    Joseph Henry (SO, Leavenworth, KS/Lansing HS) and Danny Zehner (JR, St. Louis, MO/Oakville HS) also reached double figures in scoring for Webster, each with 10 points.

With the loss, the Gorloks fall to 7-4 in the SLIAC and are in fourth place, one half game behind Greenville College (8-4).  Webster is 11-7 overall on the season.

Webster is home on February 3 to play Principia College (IL).  The Gorloks travel to Mt. Pleasant, IA, on February 7 to take on Iowa Wesleyan College.
