Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team dropped its fifth straight contest, losing at home to Greenville College, 64-44, on January 10. With the loss, the Gorloks fall to 2-4 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Gorloks trailed early, 9-4, in the first half. A Danielle Meadows (SO, Centralia, IL/Centralia HS) three-pointer seemed to spark Webster, and a Brittney Zipprich (FR, Bethalto, IL/Civic Memorial HS) jumper tied the score at 9-9 at the 11:50 mark.
The teams traded baskets over the next seven minutes till a Panther 5-0 run put them ahead, 20-15 with four minutes left in the half. Greenville took a 26-20 lead into the locker room.
In the second, Greenville ran off a 10-0 run to open the half, building a 36-20 lead. From there on, it was all downhill for the Gorloks as the Panthers steadily increased the margin, leading by 29, 60-31, with five minutes remaining in the game.
Webster continued its frigid shooting from the field, going 17-64 (26.6%) in the game, including 3-14 (21%) from three-point range. The Gorloks were out rebounded, 44-39, by the Panthers, despite an eye-popping 18 offensive rebounds.
Meadows finished with a team-high 11 points for Webster, going 3-6 from beyond the arc. Brittany Harris-Conway (JR, St. James, MO/John F. Hodge HS) had a double double on the button, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
The Gorloks, who started the season at 4-1, have dropped seven of their past eight games as their record falls to 5-8 overall on the season.
Webster hits the road on January 14, heading to Louisville, KY, to take on Spalding University. The Gorloks are back home on January 17 as they host Big Bend rival, Fontbonne University at Grant Gymnasium.
