Volleyball Improves to 13-4 In SLIAC W/Win At Spalding

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Webster University volleyball team split a pair of matches, beating St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Spalding University, 3-1, and losing to non-conference foe Indiana University Southeast. 3-0.  The Gorloks took a quintessential knock-down, drag-out decision from Spalding in the matches that took place in Louisville, KY, on October 31.

Webster won vs. Spalding, winning the first set 25-22, getting nipped in the second, 23-25, coming back to win again 25-22 in the third, then squeezing out a 29-27 win in the fourth set to clinch the match.  Jory Siebenmorgen (JR, Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) had 16 kills while hitting at a solid .433 attack percent for the match.  Siebenmorgen had three block assists as well.  Rachel Nelson (SR, Papillion, NE/LaVista South HS) had 11 kills and had three solo blocks and three block assists.

Kelsey Hamann (FR, Waterloo, IL/Waterloo HS) and Jilli Zimpfer (FR, St. Charles, MO/St. Charles HS) each had 17 assists for the match and Katie O'Toole (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lutheran South HS) had a team high 20 digs.

The Gorloks did not fare as well vs. Indiana University Southeast, an NAIA athletic scholarship program.  Webster lost in straight sets, 25-21, 25-14, and 25-15.  Siebenmorgen and Macee Owen (FR, Tucson, AZ/Empire HS) each had seven kills for the Gorloks.  Owen also had a team-high 14 digs against IU-Southeast.  Siebenmorgen and Nelson each had a solo block and two block assists in the match.  Hamann had a team-high 12 assists.

Webster is now 13-4 in the SLIAC, previously having clinched third place and the third seed in the SLIAC Tournament.  Webster will play the second seed, Westminster College, in the first round on November 7, at host Greenville College, in Greenville, IL. 

The Gorloks are 15-17 overall on the season.  Spalding falls to 10-8 in the SLIAC, as the Golden Eagles are battling it out with Fontbonne University for fourth place and the final spot in the SLIAC Tournament. 

Indiana University Southeast, located in New Albany, IN, improves to 17-15.

The Gorloks are home for their final regular season contest on November 3 as they host Blackburn College at Grant Gymnasium.  It will be Senior Night as they team sends off its four seniors.
