Box Score Looking to avenge a loss earlier at home this season, the Webster University men's basketball team came up short in a 67-63 loss at Iowa Wesleyan College, in Mt. Pleasant, IA on February 7.  The Gorloks took a halftime lead but fell behind early in the second half and never could overtake the Tigers.

Michael Dunn (Tallahassee, FL/Lawton Chiles HS) nailed a three-pointer from half court to send the Gorloks into the locker room with a 32-31 halftime lead.  Wesleyan regained the lead early in the second half, 45-39, with 16 minutes left.   Webster kept the deficit to 4-5 five points over the next 10 minutes but still trailed, 53-60, with 4:50 remaining.

The Gorloks cut the Tiger lead to two, 63-65, with: 05 on the clock, but the Tigers converted their free throws and locked up the 67-63 win.  Webster had fallen to Wesleyan, 87-67, on January 8 at Grant Gym and was hoping to return the favor at Mt. Pleasant.

Like the Webster women in the preceding game, the men took good care of the ball, making a season low eight turnovers in the contest.  The Gorloks shots a respectable 14-32 (42%) in the first half, but fell off in the second, shooting only 8-23 (35%).  Webster also held a 30-28 advantage in rebounds for the game.

Meanwhile the Tigers shot 13-29 (43%) in the second half, including 4-6 from the three-point line.  Wesleyan was 8-15 (53%) from beyond the arc for the game while Webster was just 3-12 (25%) from long range.

Hunter Ward (SO, St. Louis, MO/Kirkwood HS) led Webster in points (16), rebounds (6), and assists (3).  C.J. Moore (SO, Homestead, FL/Miami Killian HS) had 13 points, on 6-9 shooting, and added four rebounds on the afternoon.

The Gorloks are 8-5 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and tied for third place with Fontbonne University.  Webster is 12-8 overall on the season.

Webster takes the short drive down Big Bend Blvd on February 11 to renew "The Battle of Big Bend" with Fontbonne.  The SLIAC standings will add extra meaning to the game.  The day will feature several Gorlok vs. Griffin activities.  Included will be a 'knockout' shooting contest at halftime of the women's contest and a relay race at halftime of the men's game...featuring the Gorlok and Griffin.
