The Webster University women's tennis team won its sixth straight match, beating Blackburn College, 9-0, on March 31 at the Webster Groves Tennis Center. The Gorloks are 3-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and are now 10-4 overall.
The 10 victories marks just the fifth time in the program's history that it has reached double figures in wins in a season
Marissa Lewis (SR, Owasso, OK/Owasso HS) won her seventh straight, at #1 singles, and is now 14-2 on the year. Monica Behrle (Atlanta, GA/East Paulding HS), the SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, won her tenth straight singles match and improved to 16-1 for the year. Behrle won in straight sets at #2. Lewis and Behrle also both won at #1 and #2 doubles, respectively. Kaylen Kress (JR, Bartlett, IL/Bartlett HS) improved to 11-5 in singles and is now 11-2 at #3 singles. Lewis, Behrle, and Kress all won 6-0, 6-0.
With her 16th win, Behrle tied Lindsey Hays (2010-13) for second place on Webster's all-time high single season wins list. Hays won 16 in 2012 when she finished at 16-2 (.889). Lewis is tied with Allison Tungate (2009-12) for the most wins in a season with 18. Lewis and Tungate both won 18 singles matches in 2012.
Jesse Steffens-Willis (St. Louis, MO/Rockwood Summit HS) improved to 11-6 with her sixth win in a row, at #4, and Stephanie Lass (Lake Villa, IL/Lakes Community HS) improved to 9-7 at #5. Chelsea Foster (SO, St. Louis, MO/McCluer North HS) won her second singles match of the year, at #6. Steffens-Willis won 6-1, 6-2 and Lass and Foster both won 6-0, 6-0.
The Gorloks will host another SLIAC rival, Westminster College, on April 2 at the Webster Groves Tennis Center.
