The Webster University women's tennis team picked up its first win of 2015-16, beating Fontbonne University 9-0 at the Webster Groves Tennis Center on September 17. Freshmen Sara Rice and Madison Watts won their first collegiate matches in the contest.
After a loss to an NCAA II opponent to open the year, the Gorloks had an easier time in a non-conference tilt against the Griffins, a fellow St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference member. Watts (Rogersville, MO/Logan-Rogersville HS) won in straight sets at #3 singles and combined with Kaylen Kress (SR, Bartlett, IL/Bartlett HS) to win at #1 doubles.
Rice (Mahomet, IL/Mahomet-Seymour HS) won in straight sets at #4 singles and combined with Chelsea Foster (JR, St. Louis, MO/McCluer North HS) to win at #3 doubles. Monica Behrle (SO, Atlanta, GA/East Paulding HS) won 6-0, 6-0 at #1 singles, and Kress, Jesse Steffens-Willis (SO, St. Louis, MO/Rockwood Summit HS), and Stephanie Lass (SO, Lake Villa, IL/Lakes Community HS) all won at #s 2, 5, and 6 singles, respectively.
Webster is 1-1 with the victory and will host NAIA Missouri Baptist University on September 19 at Webster Groves Tennis Center, and will also play an exhibition match vs. Lewis and Clark CC that day as well. Full results for the match were:
