The Webster University women's tennis team remained undefeated in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 5-4 win over Principia College (IL) on April 11 at the Webster Groves Tennis Center.  The win leaves the Gorloks in first place in the SLIAC at 3-0 and was the team's third in a row.

In the Gorloks' hardest fought win of the year, Webster took a 2-1 edge in doubles play, needing at least three wins in singles play to clinch the contest.  Webster got its three, having to win two of the matches in tie-breaker sets to slip by the Panthers. 

Kaylen Kress (SR, Bartlett, IL/Bartlett HS) won at #2 singles, coming from behind after dropping the first set, 0-6.  Kress won the second set, 7-6, winning the set tie-breaker, 7-3.  Kress then won the third set, 6-3, for the victory and clinching the match for the Gorloks with a third singles win.

Stephanie Lass (SO, Lake Villa, IL/Lakes Community HS) won in straight sets at #6, 6-4, 6-2, and Sara Rice (FR, Mahomet, IL/Mahomet-Seymour HS) had a battle at #4 singles also.  Rice lost a 7-5 set tie-breaker to fall in the first, 6-7, but rebounded to win the second set, 6-2, to tie the match.  She went on to win her third set, 6-4, and her match. 

For Kress, it was her third straight win at singles as she improved to 11-8 on the year.  Lass won her third straight singles match as well and is 12-6 on the year.  Rice is now 11-7 on the year with her victory.

Madison Watts (FR, Rogersville, MO/Logan-Rogersville HS) and Rice won at #2 doubles, 8-6, and Jesse Steffens-Willis (SO, St. Louis, MO/Rockwood Summit HS) and Lass won at #3 doubles, 8-6.

Webster is 3-0 in the SLIAC and 11-8 overall.  Principia falls to 2-1 and 5-7 overall.  The Gorloks travel to Columbia, MO, on April 16 for matches with Stephens College and Missouri Valley College.
