The Webster University women's tennis team lost to Principa College, 5-1, in the SLIAC Tournament Championship match on April 30, at Kings Point Center in Belleville, IL.  The defending champion Gorloks came up short in its quest for a fourth St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in the last seven years.

The Gorloks battled in doubles, with the freshmen duo of Madison Watts (Rogersville, MO/Logan-Rogersville HS) and Sara Rice (Mahomet, IL/Mahomet-Seymour HS) getting outlasted at #2, 9-8, and Monica Behrle (SO, Atlanta, GA/East Paulding HS) and Kaylen Kress (SR, Bartlett, IL/Bartlett HS) losing, 8-5 at #1.

Rice won at #4 singles, 6-1, 6-0, but when Webster lost the next two completed singles, the match was over at 5-1.

Webster has won the title three of the last seven years, winning in 2010. 2012, and 2015.  In head to head SLIAC tournament championship finals, Webster defeated Principia in 2012 and 2015, while losing to the Panthers in 2013.  Principia has won the championship 19 of the 26 years in the history of SLIAC women's tennis.

Kress finishes her career at Webster with 49 singles and 49 doubles wins.  She is third on Webster's all time list in both singles and doubles wins.  Behrle now has 37 singles wins in just two seasons for the Gorloks, and is sixth on Webster's all-time list.  Behrle's 31 doubles wins ranks her eighth on Webster's all-time list.

Jesse Steffens-Willis (SO, St. Louis, MO/Rockwood Summit HS) and Stephanie Lass (SO, Lake Villa, IL/Lakes Community HS) each have 24 singles wins after two seasons, and are tied for ninth on Webster's career list.  Rice finished her freshman campaign 16-7 in singles play. 

Webster finishes the season 15-10 overall.  It is the second straight season the Gorloks reached 15 wins, the second highest total in the history of the program, surpassed only by the 19 wins in 2012.
