Morgan One Of Four Gorloks To Come Off Bench For Double Figure Points

Box Score The Webster University women's basketball team finished the non-conference portion of its schedule with a runaway, 91-45, over Morthland College (IL) on January 24 at Grant Gym.  The Gorloks raced to a 52-18 halftime lead and coasted to the 91-45 final.

The 91 points was the eighth highest single game total in team history.  Webster's 30 assists in the contest tied for the third highest total in a single game, having dished out 30 earlier in a win over Robert Morris-Springfield.  Webster shot 53% (34-64) in the game, and forced 34 turnovers while picking up 21 steals.

Webster took a 9-0 lead to open the contest and, after a Morthland bucket, increased its lead to 19-2.  Webster would finish the period up, 29-9.  The Gorloks increased their advantage to 52-18 at the half.  Natalie Busscher (SO, Mundelein, IL/Mundelein) led the Gorloks with 11 points as the team shot 57% (20-35) for the half.

Webster increased its lead to 79-29 after three periods, with the team shooting 62.5% (10-16) for the frame.  With the reserves handling the chores for the fourth period, Webster glided to the 91-45 final.

Busscher would come off the bench for a team-high 16 points, on 6-7 shooting, and had five steals.  Kaitlin Snyder (SR, Maroa, IL/Maroa-Forsythe) came off the bench also to hit double figures with 12 points, as well as Jaysea Morgan (FR, Fisk, MO/Twin Rivers) and Chelsea Holman (SR, Decherd, TN/Franklin County), who both had 10 points.  Paige Buechele (SR, Lebanon, IL/Lebanon) had a team-high six assists and Megan Brandt (SO, Sullivan, MO/Sullivan) pitched in with five.

Webster is 13-5 overall and 5-4 in the SLIAC.  Morthland, an NCCAA school from West Frankfort, IL, falls to 4-15 on the season.  Webster finishes with an 8-1 record vs. the non-conference portion of its schedule.

The Gorloks will continue play in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference when they host Westminster College on January 28 at Grant Gym.
