The Webster University women's tennis team lost to Coe College, 7-1, in an abbreviated match, on March 25 at the Webster Groves Tennis Center.  To beat the oncoming rain, singles were played first, and to eight games instead of best two-of-three sets.  Rain ended the match early as the Kohawks won, 7-1.
 
In doubles, the Gorloks' #1 and #2 tandems struggled to gain momentum and lost, 8-2 and 8-0, respectively.  At #3 doubles, Chelsea Foster (SR., St. Louis, MO) and Stephanie Lass (JR., Lake Villa, IL) earned the only Gorloks victory of the day. They set each other up with deep ground strokes and finished quickly at the net, winning the match, 8-5.
 
"I'm really proud of how we played today," said Lass. "We keep getting better and more aggressive. I'm really excited to finish this season strong with [Foster]."
 
In singles, Coe jumped ahead in nearly all matches. Sara Rice (SO., Mahomet, IL) rallied back late in her match at #3, but it wasn't enough to overcome her opponent, and she lost 8-5. At #5 and #6, Foster and Lass played well, keeping pace with their opponents. Unfortunately, both matches ended early; Lass retired due to injury, and rain cut short Foster's comeback.
 
Webster was originally scheduled to play #7 ranked Washington University as well, but the match was canceled due to rain.  With the loss, the Gorloks move to 5-6 on the season. Their next match will be at Greenville College on Friday, March 31, at 4:00 p.m.  Go Loks!
