The Webster University women's tennis team headed to Greenville College for their first SLIAC conference match, winning 9-0 on March 31 in Greenville, IL.  The Gorloks were eager to face a conference opponent and their enthusiasm translated to the scoreboard.
 
In doubles, Webster's #1 and #2 took quick victories, both defeating their opponents 8-0.  The Gorloks' #3 doubles started strong, going up 5-0, but the Panthers fought back. The Gorloks maintained their lead and still took the match at 8-4.
 
"We play teams of all calibers throughout our season, but it's important that we stick to our game and play like we know we can," said #1 doubles player Madison Watts (SO., Rogersville, MO) said after her match.

The Gorloks carried their momentum into singles, with all matches won in straight sets.  The Loks were thrilled with their first conference win and are looking to carry this momentum into the rest of the season.
 
"It was a good match for us to really work on what we've done in practice all week," Monica Behrle (JR., Atlanta, GA) commented.   "We're going to stay this strong through all of conference," added Jesse Steffens-Willis (JR., St. Louis, MO).
 
"I'm pleased with our 9-0 win for our first conference match," head coach Martha Davis-Goldstein said.  "All lines played well, and I expect strong performances for tomorrow's match against Fontbonne."
 
With the win, the Gorloks are now 6-6 on the season. The Fontbonne match is on Saturday, April 1, at 7:30 a.m. at the Webster Groves Tennis Center . Go Loks!
