The Webster University women's tennis team won in the semi-finals of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on April 21, at Principia College in Elsah, IL. After receiving a first round bye, the Loks defeated Fontbonne University, 5-0.  Webster raced to a 5-0 lead, ending the match with the needed five points, and advancing to the championship where they will face Principia College.
 
In doubles, the Gorloks mixed up the partnerships with Jesse Steffens-Willis (JR., St. Louis, MO) out for the match. Chelsea Foster (SR., St. Louis, MO) and Stephanie Lass (JR., Lake Villa, IL) moved up to #2. Sara Rice (SO., Mahomet, IL) paired up with Jordan Struckman (JR., O'Fallon, MO) at #3. All three lines won despite the late-season changes, and they moved into singles with only two wins needed.
 
Monica Behrle (JR., Atlanta, GA) came off a quick #1 doubles match right into singles, where she secured the fourth win. Rice and Lass played at #3 and #5 respectively, and a win from either of them would end the match. They were at almost identical points in their matches when Lass secured the final win.
 
"I think today's match was a good warm up for what's to come in the championship," Behlre said. "This is the match that we've worked hard all season to win, and we're going to use what we've learned in order to take home that title."

With her wins, Behrle is now third on the Webster career list with 52 singles victories, and tied for fifth with 43 doubles victories.  Webster is now 11-8 on the year.
 
The Gorloks will face off in a rematch of the SLIAC 2016 championship with Principia. The Panthers took the 2016 title with a 5-1 win.  In a meeting between the teams last week, Principia edged out a win 5-4.  The championship will take place on Saturday, April 22, at 2:30 p.m. at Kings Point Sports Club in Belleville, IL.
