Winding up a weekend road trip to Chicago, the Webster University women's tennis team stopped long enough to beat Blackburn College, 9-0, on April 9 in Carlinville, IL. The Gorloks are now 3-0 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The long ride didn't slow down the Loks, who quickly dispatched the Beavers.
The Loks breezed through doubles, only losing one game total across all three lines. They powered through their fatigue and didn't lose concentration against an opponent whose play style was vastly different than the Loks saw in their previous two matches.
Their momentum carried over into singles. Four singles lines didn't give up a single game. Only three games were lost in singles play and the Gorloks lost only four games across all nine lines.
"Everyone played very tough," said assistant coach Kaylen Kress. "No one gave up, everyone pushed through. And just to point out Jesse [Steffens-Willis] this weekend, I saw her look to take control of every point, game, and match. I'm very proud of everyone."
With the win, the Gorloks move to 9-7 on the year and 3-0 in conference. Their next match will be against Westminster College, another conference opponent, on Wednesday, April 12, at 6:00 p.m. at the Webster Groves Tennis Center. Go Loks!
