Two members of the Webster University women's tennis team participated in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional, on September 22-23, in Oberlin, OH.  Monica Behrle (SR., Atlanta, GA) and Madison Watts (JR., Rogersville, MO) competed at the tournament for the first time for the Gorloks.  The ITA Regionals feature college tennis players from all over the country at various levels of competition.
 
Behrle and Watts played both singles and doubles over the weekend.  All the teams played in the same pool for doubles. In their first match, Behrle and Watts lost 8-5 to a doubles team from Hope College, unable to close it out.  In their second match, they played better, but lost to a tough Lake Forest College duo, 8-4. That ended their doubles competition, but there was still hope in singles.
 
The singles draw was divided into two pools, A and B, based on the players' Universal Tennis Rating (UTR).  Behrle was in Pool A and Watts in Pool B.  Behrle blew by her first opponent, from Baldwin-Wallace, 6-0, 6-0.  She then faced an opponent from Washington University, to whom she lost, 6-2, 6-2.
 
"I think I played really well," Behrle said after the tournament. "My serves were strong throughout the weekend, but they got better."
 
Watts faced an opponent from Lake Forest College again in her opening singles round, losing 6-2, 6-4. She played a great second match against her opponent from North Park University, but lost in three sets.  Afterwards, Watts was still optimistic.  "Playing against them really made us raise our level of play," reflected Watts. "I think we'll have a strong [spring] season."

Said head coach Martha Davis-Goldstein, "Madison and Monical played very well this weekend.  Although we did not come out on top in every match, we played very strong.  This event definitely challenged us and it will motivate our preparation for the spring season."
 
This event closed out the 2017 fall season,  The Gorloks move indoors for strength and conditioning to prepare for the spring season, with their eyes set on a SLIAC conference title. Go Loks!
