KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Webster University senior
Riley Muren (O'Fallon, Ill./Illinois-Springfield) opened up play here Friday at the ITA Central Regional Championships hosted by Kalamazoo College by posting a 1-2 record in singles action.
Muren, who is the only Gorlok playing in this year's ITA Central Regional Championships, opened his day on Friday by facing Lukas Senn of Wabash College in the Round of 128. Muren won his first round match over Senn by scores of 6-2, 6-3.Â
The win over Senn advanced Muren into the main draw Round of 64 where he faced Joshua Xu of the University of Chicago. In that match, XU prevailed by scored of 6-1, 6-1 to drop Muren into a consolation round match-up later in the day on Friday.
In the second round of the consolation bracket, Muren meet Joaquin Abos from the College of Wooster. Abos, who opened the event with a 7-5, 7-5 loss in the opening round to North Central's Guillermo Gonzalez-Fernandez, handed Muren a 6-4, 6-1 setback. Abos would eventually rwach the fourth round of consolation draw after defeating Illinois Wesleyan's Dylan Makalli (6-0, 6-1) in the third round.Â
With his two losses on Friday, Muren's stay at the ITA Central Regionals was concluded. The event is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, Oct. 6.
