LITCHFIELD, Ill. – This morning the Webster University men's and women's cross country teams were back in action when they traveled to Litchfield, Illinois, to compete in the SLIAC Cross Country Championships at Litchfield Country Club. The women's team took first place in the event as they finished with a team score of 30 points to capture their fifth SLIAC Championship in program history. The men's side took second place in the event after finishing with a final score of 52 points.
The women's team finished just five points ahead of Greenville (Ill.) University who finished with a team score of 35. The team was led by
Kyanne Ruth Williams who captured the third individual cross country SLIAC Championship for Webster University after finishing the 6K race with a time of 23:24. Her time of 23:24 is the seventh fastest time in program history in the 6K race.
Danielle Schultz and
Cora Reed were not too far behind Williams as they finished second and fifth, respectively. Schultz took second place out of 39 runners after finishing with a time of 23:39. Her time of 23:39 is tied for 14
th all-time in Webster history for the 6K. Reed took fifth place in the event after finishing with a time of 24:26.
In addition to the three top five finishers,
Megan Bartz took 12
th place after finishing with a time of 26:31,
Michelle Grant took 13
th place after finishing with a time of 26:44, and
Hailey Debert took 18
th place after finishing with a time of 28:41 to round out the competitors for Webster.
The men's side finished 29 points behind Greenville for first place.
Nathan Freyling led the way for the Gorloks as he finished in second place out of 54 runners with a time of 27:00.
Kaelin Triggs also finished in the top 10 as he took seventh place after finishing with a time of 27:24. In addition,
Sam Baker took 16
th with a time of 28:39,
Cameron Sakuma finished in 17
th place with a time of 28:58,
Caleb Fletcher finished in 22
nd with a time of 30:10,
Christian Gray finished 29
th with a time of 31:33, and
Joshua Clark took 35
th with a time of 32:53 to round out the competitors for the men's side.
For his efforts this season,
Chris Sandefur was named the SLIAC Women's Cross Country Coach the Year.
