DAVENPORT, Fla. – The 10th ranked Webster University baseball team continued their spring break trip today when they took on Coe (Iowa) College and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse for a doubleheader. The Gorloks fell to Coe College by a final score of 7-4 and then bounced back to defeat #RV UW-La Crosse by a final score of 7-4 to improve to 8-3 on the season.

In their first game of the day, the Gorloks put together seven hits in the loss. They got on the board first in the bottom of the third when they scored on two passed balls to take a 2-0 lead. They scored two more runs in the inning as Ben Swords doubled to score Adam Lovell and Parker Wielt singled to score Ben Swords. Coe College had a tough time getting anything going through the first six innings of the contest, but scored four runs in the top of the seventh and three runs in the top of the ninth to solidify the win.

J.T. Miller was the starting pitcher in the first game of the day as he allowed two hits while striking out five in 4.1 scoreless innings. Scott Detweiler, Bobby Strandt, Deven Shulstad, Cooper Hake (0-1), and Parker Wielt pitched in relief of Miller as the five combined to allow eight hits and two earned runs while striking gout three in the final 4.2 innings of the game.

Ben Swords led the way at the plate as he went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. In addition, Parker Wielt went 1-for-4 with an RBI, Adam Lovell went 1-for-5 with a run scored, Zach Goodman went 1-for-3 with a run scored, and Matt Staker went 1-for-4 with a run scored to round out the top performers for the Gorloks.

The Gorloks bounced back in the second game of the day and put together 15 hits in the contest. They got off to a great start as they scored a run in the top of the first and two runs in each of the next two innings to jump out to an early 5-0 lead. The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, but another run from the Gorloks in the top of the sixth put Webster up 6-1 in the game. The Eagles scored a second run in the bottom of the sixth, but an RBI single from Adam Lovell in the top of the eighth extended their lead to 7-2 late in the game. After a three-run rally from the Eagles in the bottom of the eighth, the Gorloks were able to pick up the final outs of the contest to win their eighth game of the year.

Jordan Smevoll (2-1) picked up the win in the game as he allowed nine hits and two earned runs while striking out six in 7.0 innings. Ben Kowalski came in to pitch the final two innings and allowed just two hits while striking out three.
