ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Webster University women's soccer team kicked off their season this evening when they played host to the Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Fightin' Engineers for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks came from behind in the second half to win the game by a final score of 2-1 to improve to 1-0 on the season. With the loss, the Fightin' Engineers fall to 0-1 on the year.
The Gorloks were outshot 11-10 in the game with both sides recording four shots on target. The Fightin' Engineers finished the game with six corner kicks while Webster did not have any.
The Gorloks got off to a slow start in the first half as the Fightin' Engineers controlled the pace early. Rose-Hulman got on the board in the 24
th minute of the game and took a 1-0 lead into the locker room.
Webster bounced back to start the second half and were able to score their first goal of the season in the 53
rd minute of the contest.
Reaghan Young launched a throw-in into the box and found
Jordan Lande who was able to head the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net to tie the score at one.
Abbey Poe scored the game winner just four minutes later as she was able to finish off a pass from
Grace Rodgers to solidify the win for Webster.
The goal was a milestone for
Jordan Lande as it was the 50
th of her career. She becomes just the fifth player in Gorlok history to hit the 50-goal mark as she ranks fifth all-time in the Webster record books.
Taryn Banfield (1-0) was in between the pipes for the Gorloks as she recorded three saves in the match.
The Gorloks will return to the field on Saturday, September 3
rd when they travel to Monmouth, Illinois, to take on Monmouth (Ill.) College. The game is set to kick-off at noon.
