ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference has announced the Men's Tennis Preseason poll for the 2023 season. The Gorloks, who will be competing in the UMAC for the first time, were picked to finish third in the South Division after receiving five points in the poll. Greenville (Ill.) University was picked to finish first in the South Division after receiving nine total points and three first place votes. University of Wisconsin-Superior was picked to win the North Division after receiving 25 points in the poll and five first place votes.
The Gorloks enter the spring season with a 2-4 overall record. Their two wins in the fall came in a 9-0 sweep over Illinois College and a 6-0 sweep over Franklin (Ind.) College.
Matthew Birchmeier and
Nicholas Granada will look to carry over their momentum into the spring as they both finished with four singles wins in the fall. Birchmeier went 4-1 in the fall including a 3-1 record in #5 singles and a 1-0 record in #4 singles. Granada went 4-2 in the fall including a 1-1 record in #4 singles, a 3-0 record in #3 singles, and a 0-1 record in #2 singles.
Alex Pinkston and
Matthew Birchmeier led the Gorloks in doubles in the fall as they went 3-3 in #1 doubles.
Carson Fisher and
Britton Struewing also went 3-3 in doubles as they went 2-3 in #2 doubles and 1-0 in #3 doubles.
The Gorloks will kick off their spring season on Friday, February 17
th when they host the Mississippi University for Women at Forest Lake Tennis Club in Chesterfield, Missouri. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
