WU’s Jaycee Lewis Named SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has released the names of the student-athletes who have been named Player of the Week for the week of September 30- October 6. WU's Jaycee Lewis was named SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for the sport of volleyball.

Last week, the Gorloks played in three matches and secured all three victories by only allowing one set-victory that included straight-set victories over Nebraska Wesleyan University and Hannibal-LaGrange University.

Webster opened the week and continued SLIAC play with a short visit across town to Fontbonne University on October 3rd and took down the Griffins by the final score of 3-1. In that match, Jaycee led the back row with a match-high 26 digs while setting up her teammates five times. 

Two days later, the Gorloks hosted their second tri-match of the season on October 5th with two non-conference matches and swept the day by eliminating the Prairie Wolves and Trojans in straight-sets. 

In the match against Nebraska Wesleyan, Lewis recorded her 12th double-digit dig match of the season with 10 digs while adding four assists. 

Webster closed out the home tri-match with a dominant 3-0 victory over the Trojans as Lewis collected a team-high 11 digs that helped extend the Gorloks win streak to four matches. 

For the week, Lewis collected a total of 47 digs that averaged to 4.70 digs per match.
