MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Webster University women's tennis team was back in action on Sunday when they traveled to Monmouth, Illinois, to take on the Monmouth (Ill.) College Fighting Scots for a nonconference matchup. The Gorloks defeated the Fighting Scots by a final score of 6-3 to improve to 12-6 on the season.
The Gorloks got off to a great start in doubles as they took two out of three points.
Bailee Pineda and
Evie Schuetz won #2 doubles as they defeated Jennifer Shimmin and Kimber Calvert by a final score of 8-5.
Maddie Mena and
Chloe Daughtry scored the second point for Webster as they defeated Maddie Psomas and Alayna McKinley in #3 doubles by a final score of 8-0.
Webster carried over their momentum into singles and were able to capture four out of six points. After dropping #1 and #2 singles,
Maddie Mena got the Gorloks back in the scoring column as she won #3 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 6-1. In addition,
Bailee Pineda won #4 singles by final scores of 6-3 and 6-0,
Evie Schuetz won #5 singles by final scores of 6-1 and 6-0, and
Chloe Daughtry won #6 singles by final scores of 6-0 and 6-0.
The Gorloks will return to the courts on Saturday, April 20
th when they travel to Columbus, Mississippi, to take on the Mississippi University for Women for a UMAC matchup. The match is set to start at 9 a.m.
