Three Gorloks Conclude Tournament Action At ITA Regional Championships

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Three student-athletes on the Webster University men's tennis team concluded action at the 2024 Division III ITA Regional Championships with consolation play hosted by Washington University at Dwight Davis Tennis Center on Saturday.

The final day of play began with doubles competition that included WU's No. 1 doubles team of Matthew Birchmeier and Ethan Foucheaux. In the round of 16 matchup, the duo battled toe-to-toe against the ninth-seeded doubles team of Finley Buelte and Teagen Crow of DePauw University and forced a tiebreaker set.

In the tiebreaker set, both teams displayed great shots and exchanged points to a 5-5 set tie. However, Buelte and Crow won back-to-back sets that eliminated Gorloks from doubles competition.

Following the doubles competition, Foucheaux and Carson Fisher competed in their respective consolation singles matches.

Foucheaux opened singles play in the round of 32 against SLIAC opponent Ignacio Zamora from Principia College. Foucheaux battled Zamora early on and rallied late to win the match by the final score of 8-5.

In the round of 16 matchup against Martin Suarez of Anderson University, Foucheaux was able to take three set victories but dropped the match by the score of 3-8.

WU's Fisher faced off against Matt McGee of Baldwin Wallace in the round of 32 matchup and captured three set victories but dropped the match by the score of 3-8.

The Gorloks will close out the 2024 fall schedule on Saturday, October 5 hosting Westminster College at Webster Groves Recreational Complex.
