Men’s Basketball Picked First In SLIAC Preseason Poll

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has released the 2025-26 preseason polls for the sport of men's basketball. The Gorloks were picked first in the conference with 63 points and seven first-place votes. 

The Gorloks are coming off a 15-13 overall record that included a 12-6 mark in conference play and an appearance in the 2024-25 SLIAC Men's Basketball Championship game. 

This season, the Gorloks bring back three starters from last years' squad that includes Second Team All-Conference selection Jemard Sykes II and juniors Sebastian Reed and Justin Ugo. In addition, Webster has brought in familiar conference talents and previous SLIAC All-Conference selections in Charles Nelson (Fontbonne University), and Ethan Chartrand (Fontbonne University / UMSL). Other familiar SLIAC talents that are in the mix this season is Kendall Horton (Fontbonne University) and Adam Painter (Fontbonne University)  

Sykes II, a local guard from St. Louis, enters his senior season coming off a Second All-Conference selection from last season where he averaged 12.9 points per game (team-high), 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game in 28 starts. In addition, he shot 44.6 percent from the field, 35.3 percent from behind the arc, and 68.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Ugo enters his junior season where he appeared in all 28 games that included 15 starts last season. He averaged 9.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, .89 blocks, and .79 steals per game. Lastly, he shot 52.4 percent from the field and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line.   

Reed, a native of Atlanta, Georgia returns for his junior campaign where he appeared in all 26 games last season that included 20 starts. In those 26 games, he averaged 12.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.07 steals per game. In addition, he shot 50.9 percent from the field and 61.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Other key returners include guards Amarion Mohair, William Burroughs V, and Jalen Davis while forwards Jacob Schafer, Tanguy Attie, Linden James, Andrew Hall, and Nkosi Constant look to add front court depth.   

This season, the Webster University coaching staff is excited to welcome nine transfers and three first-year student-athletes to the mix for this season.

Nelson comes to Webster from Fontbonne University where he was selected to the 2024-25 SLIAC First Team All-Conference team where he led the conference in scoring with an average of 23.6 points per game. In addition, he averaged 4.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. Lastly, he shot 49 percent from the field, 37.2 percent from behind the arc, and 80.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Chartrand comes to Webster after a one-year stint at University of Missouri- St. Louis (Div. II) and two years playing at Fontbonne University. Last season at UMSL, he appeared in 14 games with five starts where he averaged 2.1 points per game and secured nine rebounds. In addition, he shot 54.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from the free-throw line. Prior to UMSL, Chartrand started career at Fontbonne and was a 2023-24 SLIAC First Team All-Conference selection.

In addition to Nelson and Chartrand, dual-sport athlete Kendall Horton comes to Webster from Fontbonne University where he averaged 13.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.3 steals, and one block per game in 25 starts. In addition, he shot 44.6 percent from the field and 65.9 percent from the free-throw line.

The final familiar conference talent that joins the mix this season is Adam Painter as he comes from Fontbonne University. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 10.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game as a sophomore. In addition, he shot 53.8 percent from the field and 63 percent from the free-throw line.

The Webster University coaching staff added four transfers from institutions within an hour of campus which includes Dee'Andre Vance (Lewis and Clark CC), Colin DeBold (Missouri Baptist University), Nbaye Thiam (STL CC), and Dallas Harding-Fair (Kaskaskia College).

Last season at STL CC, Thiam averaged 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 points per game. In addition, he shot 39.3 percent from the field and 50 percent from the free-throw line. 

Harding-Fair comes to Webster following his freshman season at Kaskaskia College where he averaged 3.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 0.4 blocks per game. In addition, he shot 54.3 percent from the field and 60 percent from the free-throw line.

The final transfer added to the mix for this season is Myles Allison who comes to Webster from Oxnard College. Last season at Oxnard, he averaged 9.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.5 steals per game in 22 starts. In addition, he shot 38.4 percent from the field, 34.1 percent from behind the arc, and 72.9 percent from the free-throw line. 

The three first-year student-athletes include guards Anthony Valdes (Tamarac, Florida) and Aiden Crossin (Valmeyer, Illinois) and forward / center Eli Maritz (O'Fallon, Missouri). 

The Gorloks open the 2025-26 season on Friday, November 7th with a visit to Welch College starting at 6:30PM in Gallatin, Tennessee.
