Women’s Tennis Fall Short To Messiah In Spring Break Finale

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Webster University women's tennis team closed out their spring break trip with a match against Messiah University on Friday. The Gorloks had a strong start but fell in singles play by the final score of 3-4.

The match opened with doubles competition as the Gorloks won all three doubles matches that took the early 3-0 advantage. In the number one singles match, the team of Journee White and Kylie Chitwood battled their opponents to a 6-4 victory.

In the number two doubles match, the duo of Maddie Mena and Lucy Paro dominated their opponents to 6-1 victory.

In the final doubles match, the duo of Bailee Pineda and Evie Schuetz took down their opponents by the score of 6-2.

In singles play, White secured a single victory in the number one singles match with scores of 6-1 and 6-4.

In the number four singles match, Mena earned the only other singles victory for Webster as she dominated her opponent by the scores of 6-1 and 6-1.

In the number two singles match, Paro dropped the opening set but responded with a 6-4 second set victory that forced a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker set, Paro captured five set points but fell by the score of 5-10.

In the third singles match, Chitwood battled her opponent closely but dropped the match by the scores of 4-6 and 3-6.

In the number five singles match, Schuetz won the opening set by the score of 6-4. However, her opponent in Katelyn Good responded in the second set with a 6-7 victory that forced a third set. In the third set, Schuetz battled her opponent but fell late by the score of 6-10.

In the final singles match, Riham Benjelloun lined up against Naomi Parson and took the first set by the score of 6-4. However, Parson answered back in the second set with a 4-6 victory that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Benjelloun went point-for-point with Parson but fell late by the score of 9-11.

The Gorloks will play at home for the first time in the spring season on Saturday, March 22 hosting Southwestern Illinois College starting at 10:00AM in Webster Groves, Missouri.
