Gorloks Capture Season Sweep Over Westminster With 7-0 Victory

FULTON, Mo. - The Webster University men's tennis team continued the spring season with a rematch decision against Westminster College on Sunday at William Woods University. The Gorloks secured the season sweep over the Blue Jays with a 7-0 shutout victory. With the victory, it marks the fourth shutout victory of the academic year.

Webster and Westminster opened the match with doubles competitions as the Gorloks dominated all three matches and allowed only one set victory. In the number two doubles match, Carson Fisher and Jack Forlenza worked fantastic as a team and shutout their opponents 6-0. In the number one doubles match, Matthew Birchmeier and Ethan Foucheaux cruised to a 6-0 victory. In the third doubles match, the team of Andrew McDonald and Nicholas Granada took down their opponents by the score of 6-1. 

In singles play, the Gorloks took all six matches that helped secure the victory. In the number one singles match, Foucheaux lined up against Cooper Pennington and secured the 8-4 victory. 

In the number two singles match, Fisher was tasked against John Stannard as Fisher cruised to a 8-1 victory. 

In the number three singles match, Birchmeier took down David Murillo-Martinez by the final score of 8-0.   

In the number four singles match, Granada lined up against Andy Reid and blanked him 8-0 for the victory. 

In the number five singles match, Forlenza dominated Ryan Pemberton to a 8-0 victory. 

In the number six singles match, McDonald faced off against Hugo Jover and defeated him by the score of 8-2.  

The Gorloks will continue non-conference play on Wednesday, April 16 hosting Kaskaskia College at Webster Groves Recreation Complex.
