Gorloks Secured First Conference Victory Of Spring Season With Shutout Over MUW

ELSAH, Ill. - The Webster University women's tennis team continued conference play with a match against Mississippi University for Women on Saturday. The Gorloks secured their first conference victory of the spring season with a dominant 7-0 victory over the Owls. Due to weather, this match was played at Principia College.

Webster and MUW opened the match with doubles competitions where the Gorloks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by winning all three matches. In the first doubles match, the team of Kylie Chitwood and Journee White got up early and cruised to a 6-0 shutout victory.

In the second doubles match, the team of Maddie Mena and Lucy Paro blanked their opponents to a 6-0 victory.

In the third doubles match, Webster won that match by default.

In singles play, the Gorloks achieved all six victories that led to the shutout victory. In the number one singles match, White faced off against Emma Horton and eliminated Horton in straight sets by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0.

In the second singles match, Paro lined up against Brooklyn Ward as Paro blanked Ward in straight sets by the scores of 6-0.

In the third singles match, Chitwood eliminated Alaina Mathis in straight sets by the scores of 6-0.

In the fourth singles match, Mena blanked Davianna Brent in back-to-back sets by the scores of 6-0 for the victory.

Webster won the final two singles matches by default.

The Gorloks will continue the spring season on Friday, April 4 hosting Kaskaskia College starting at 4:00PM in Webster Groves, Missouri.
