Women’s Tennis Fall To Greenville In Conference Opener

Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Webster University women's tennis team opened conference play by hosting the Panthers of Greenville University on Tuesday. The Gorloks battled the Panthers but dropped the match by the score of 2-5. With the defeat, Webster moves to 4-4 overall on the season. 

Webster and Greenville opened the match with doubles competitions as the Gorloks won two doubles matches. The number one doubles team of Kylie Chitwood and Journee White went point-for-point against their opponents that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, both student-athletes worked great together and eliminated their opponents 3-0 for the victory. 

In the second doubles match, the team of Maddie Mena and Luco Paro allowed just two set victories that led to a 6-2 victory. 

In the third doubles match, the duo of Bailee Pineda and Evie Schuetz captured three set victories but dropped the match by the score of 3-6. 

In the fourth doubles match, the team of Analiese Smith and Riham Benjelloun played in their first doubles match together and dropped the match by the score of 0-6. 

In singles play, the Gorloks won one single match that came from the third singles match. positions. In the number three singles match, Chitwood eliminated Lanie Carder in straight sets by the scores of 6-1 and 6-3. 

In the number one singles match, White faced off against Irlanda Oliver and went point-for-point in the opening set that forced a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker set, White battled but dropped the set 3-0. In the second set, White captured three set victories but dropped the set by the score of 3-6. 

In the second singles match, Paro lined up against Addison Brannon and opened the first set with a 7-5 victory. In the second set, Paro dropped the set 4-6 that forced a third set. In the third set, Paro captured one set victory but fell by the score of 1-6. 

In the number four singles match, Mena secured eight set victories but dropped the match in straight sets by the scores of 4-6 and 4-6. 

In the number five singles match, Pineda faced off against Callie Adkins and won the first set by the score of 6-4. In the second set, Pineda captured three set victories but fell by the score of 3-6 that forced a third set. In the third set, Adkins eliminated Pineda by the score of 0-6. 

In the number six singles match, Schuetz captured five set victories but dropped the match in straight sets by the scores of 3-6 and 2-6. 

The Gorloks will the spring schedule on Friday, April 4 hosting Kaskaskia College starting at 4:00PM in Webster Groves, Missouri.
