Gorloks Eliminates Principia In Semifinals; Falls To Greenville In UMAC South Championships

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The Webster University women's tennis competed in postseason play with two matches in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) South Division Tournament on Friday at Southern Illinois University. The Gorloks eliminated Principia College in the semifinals match by the final score of 4-1 that advanced to the championship match. Webster fell to the Panthers of Greenville University by the final score of 0-4 in the championship match. 

Match 1: Webster 4, Principia 1
Webster and Principia opened the semifinals match with singles competitions. In the number one singles match, Journee White lined up against Saray Cisneros as White opened the match with a 6-3 first set victory. In the second set, White and Cisneros battled back-and-forth as Cisneros forced a third set with a 6-4 victory. In the third set, both student-athletes exchanged points as White dropped the set late by the score of 4-6. 

In the second singles match, Lucy Paro was tasked against Kimberly Peterson and opened the match with a 6-4 victory. In the second set, Paro and Peterson battled back-and-forth as Paro fell late by the score of 6-7 that forced a tiebreaker set. In the tiebreaker set, Paro and Peterson traded points as Paro outlasted Peterson with back-to-back points that won the match by the score of 8-6.   

In the third singles match, Kylie Chitwood shutout her opponent Testimony Beaton in straight sets that gave the Gorloks the 2-1 advantage. 

In the fourth singles match, Maddie Mena eliminated Gislove Glokpor in straight sets by the final scores of 6-0 which gave Webster the 3-1 lead. 

In the fifth singles match, Evie Schuetz lined up against Kezo Keza and opened the match with a 6-3 victory. In the second set, Schuetz blanked Keza 6-0 for the match victory which helped secure the win. 

Match 2: Webster 0, Greenville 4
Webster and Greenville opened the match with doubles competitions as the Gorloks secured a victory from the number one doubles match. In that match, the team of White and Chitwood dominated their opponents to a 6-1 victory. 

In the second doubles match, the team of Mena and Paro earned three sets victories but fell by the score of 3-6. 

In the third doubles match, the duo of Riham Benjelloun and Schuetz dropped the match by the score of 0-6. 

In singles play, White captured five set victories but fell short to Irlanda Oliver by the scores of 2-6 and 3-6. 

In the second singles match, Paro lined up against Addie Brennan-Wiegand and won three set victories but dropped the match by the scores of 3-6 and 0-6. 

In the fourth singles match, Mena faced off against Emily Kowalke and secured six but dropped the match by the scores of 4-6 and 2-6.  

Three matches did not finish:

#3 singles match: WU's Chitwood had the advantage over Lanie Carder that included a 6-1 first set victory. 

#5 singles match: WU's Schuetz won two set victories against Callie Adkins but trailed by the score of 2-4. 

#6 singles match: WU's Benjelloun captured a set victory against Lily Gregory but trailed 1-3. 

The Gorloks conclude the 2024-25 academic season with a 9-6 overall record and 4-2 home record.
