Women’s Tennis Seasons Ends At UMAC Championships To UW-Superior

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Webster University women's tennis team competed in the opening round of the 2025 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament on Friday against #1 seed University of Wisconsin-Superior. The Gorloks season comes to a close in a 0-4 defeat at the hands of the Yellowjackets. Webster concludes their season with a 9-6 overall record.

Webster and UW-Superior opened the match with doubles matches as the Gorloks earned one doubles victory. In the number one doubles match, the fantastic team of Kylie Chitwood and Journee White jumped out to an early lead and paced to a dominant 6-1 victory. 

In the second doubles match, the team of Maddie Mena and Lucy Paro secured two set victories but dropped the match by the score of 2-6. 

In the third doubles match, the duo of Riham Benjelloun and Evie Schuetz worked together and captured two set victories but unfortunately fell by the score of 2-6.  

In singles play, Webster battled in all six matches but fell in three matches. In the number one singles match, White lined up against Anouk Bluemm as White earned six set victories but fell in straight sets by the identical scores of 3-6. 

In the second singles match, Paro faced off against Elif Oezen and won three sets in the second sets but dropped the match by the scores of 0-6 and 3-6.

In the fifth singles match, Schuetz was tasked against Kathryn Jonas as Schuetz won one set victory but dropped the match. 

Three matches did not finish:
#3 singles match: Chitwood vs Claudia Curtis
Chitwood opened the match with a dominant 6-2 victory for the early set advantage. In the second set, both student-athletes battled back-and-forth as Curtis had the 5-4 advantage when the match was called. 

#4 singles match: Mena vs Giulia Araujo de Barros
In the first set, Mena earned three set victories but dropped the first set by the score of 3-6. In the second set, Mena and Araujo de Barros traded points to the score of 2-3 when the match was called. 

#6 singles match: Benjelloun vs Brooke Wilfong  
In this match, both student-athletes battled to the score of 1-2 as Wilfong had the advantage. 

The Gorloks extended their spring season winning-season streak to five seasons under Head Coach John Black
