Gorloks Baseball Secure Regular Season Title; Earn Top Seed In SLIAC Baseball Tournament

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - With the series sweep over Fontbonne University on Sunday, May 4th, the No. 14 Webster University baseball team secured the 2025 SLIAC Baseball regular season title for the 18th time in school history and claimed the top seed in the 2025 SLIAC Baseball Tournament. Webster will make their 27th appearance in the SLIAC Tournament on Thursday, May 8 at 2:00PM.

This season, the Gorloks concluded the regular season with an overall record of 33-7 that included eight conference sweeps and a series split against Mississippi University for a 17-1 conference record. 

With the regular season complete, the Gorloks pitching staff ranks first in the conference in several pitching statistics while six Gorloks recorded a batting average of .300 or better with the minimum of two plate-appearance per game and played 75% of games. 

The Gorloks pitching staff recorded the lowest earned-run-average in the league with a 3.34 ERA and held opponents to a .235 batting average which was the lowest batting average against in the league. In addition, the Gorloks recorded a conference-best 354 strikeouts and secured a league-high six saves. 

Six Gorloks established an earned-run-average of 2.00 or lower led by the conference leader in Elijah Rompala-Matthews with a 1.47 conference ERA. The right-hander from Chicago pitched 18.1 innings and recorded 20 strikeouts in conference play. Fellow right-hander Ethan Luzum recorded a 1.69 ERA that included 5.1 innings pitched and seven strikeouts. The anchor of the pitching staff in Joel Arsenault recorded a 1.74 ERA that included 10.1 innings pitched, 17 strikeouts, and league-high five saves.

The ace of the Gorloks in Ryan Greifelt generated a 1.75 ERA that included 36 innings pitched and 41 strikeouts which ranks third in the conference. The number two starter for Webster in Carter Hunt recorded a 1.83 ERA that included a team-high 39.1 innings pitched and 39 strikeouts.Two-way player in Cullen McBride recorded a 2.00 ERA in nine innings pitched and recorded eight strikeouts. 

The Gorloks finished the regular season ranked third with a .331 team batting average that included 274 RBI's and 38 home runs. As a team, the Gorloks had six student-athletes average .300 or better with the minimum of two at-bats per game. Senior Evan Evola led the team with a .429 conference batting average that included 30 hits, 30 RBI's, and six home runs in SLIAC game. 

Fellow senior Nick Schumacher finished second on the team with a conference batting average of .381 that included 10 hits, 15 RBI's, and two home runs. His senior teammate in Karl Peters recorded a conference batting average of .365 that included 27 hits, led the conference with five triples, and drove in 16 RBI's. He recorded a perfect 10-of-10 in stolen bases.  

Furthermore, senior Ben Stedman finished the regular season with a .357 conference batting average in conference play that included 20 hits, six doubles, and 10 RBI's. Fifth-year R.J. LaRocco capped off his final season in the SLIAC with a regular season batting average of .348 that included 23 hits, team-high 10 doubles, and 12 RBI's. First-year Ryan Hartz had a fantastic freshman season as he recorded a conference batting average of .305 that included 18 hits, 14 RBI's, and two home runs in conference play.
