Women’s Tennis Drop Three Matches In Indiana

FRANKLIN, Ind. - The Webster University women's tennis team traveled to the state of Indiana over the weekend and competed in three matches at Franklin College. The Gorloks competed hard but dropped all three matches to Franklin College, Trine University, and Adrian College.   

Match #1: Webster 0, Franklin 7
Webster and Franklin opened the match with doubles competitions and fought hard but fell in all three matches. In the number one doubles match, Maggie McBratney and Abby Cristea paired up and worked together for one set victory but dropped the match by the score of 1-6. 

In the number two doubles match, Riham Benjelloun and Evie Schuetz teamed up and secured three sets but fell by the score of 3-6. This duo achieved the most sets won in doubles competition. 

In the number three doubles match, Doreen Eyongeta and Irune Rubio Fernandez partnered up and gained more collegiate tennis experience but dropped the match by the score of 0-6. 

In singles play, Webster competed hard in all six matches. In the number one singles match, McBratney lined up against Ailyn Hendricks and captured four sets but fell by the scores of 1-6 and 3-6. In the number two singles match, Scheutz faced off against Emma Tranter and secured four sets but dropped the match by the scores of 1-6 and 3-6.

In the third singles match, Benjelloun was tasked against Reagan Cox and this match went the distance. In the first set, Benjelloun and Cox battled back-and-forth to a tie at four apiece when Benjelloun rallied late for consecutive sets that won the first set. In the second set, Cox responded with a 6-3 victory that forced a third set. In the final set, both student-athletes went point-for-point but Benjelloun fell short by the score of 6-10.  

Cristea played against Alleigh Leezer in the fourth singles match and won five sets but dropped the match by the scores of 1-6 and 4-6.  In the fifth singles match, Eyongeta was challenged against Sofie Ballesteros as Eyongeta secured one set but dropped the match by the scores of 0-6 and 1-6. 

Rubio Fernandez closed out singles play with a match against Emma Sappenfield as Rubio Fernandez competed hard but dropped the match by the scores of 0-6. 

Match #2: Webster 0, Trine 7
The Gorloks played a very talented squad in Trine University and opened the match with doubles competition but dropped all three doubles matches by the identical scores of 0-6. 

In the number one singles match, McBratney faced off against Elina Locane and won six sets but dropped the match by the scores of 2-6 and 4-6. In the second singles match, Schuetz played against Emma Beehler and secured three sets but fell by the scores of 1-6 and 2-6. 

In the third, five, and sixth singles match, the Gorloks struggled to win a set as all three matches resulted in identical defeats at the scores of 0-6 respectively. In the fourth singles match, Christea captured one set in the second set but dropped the match by the scores of 0-6 and 1-6.


Match #3: Webster 0, Adrian 7
Webster closed out the road trip with a match against Adrian College on Sunday morning. The Gorloks opened the match with doubles play and captured two set victories but dropped both matches by the score of 1-6 respectively. 

In singles play, McBratney played against Hye Jin Elliott in the number one match and won two sets but fell by the scores of 1-6 respectively. In the second singles match, Schuetz won three sets but dropped the match by the scores of 2-6 and 1-6. 

In the third singles match, Cristea lined up against Ella Croftchik and had a late comeback in the second set but it fell just short by the scores of 1-6 and 4-6. In the fourth and fifth singles matches, Eyongeta and Rubio Fernandez fought hard but fell by the identical scores of 0-6.  

The Gorloks will have a week of practices before traveling to Millikin University on Saturday, September 13 for a non-conference match starting at 1:00PM in Decatur, Illinois.
